All digital cameras have automatic white balance capability, but white balance is greatly affected by the type of lighting on the subject. Many times the automatic white balance does not do a good job of matching the white balance to the lighting. Most digital cameras have custom white balance settings for sunlight, incandescent and fluorescent lighting, but these settings are not always correct for a given picture-taking situation.
